威廉·華萊士於1272年生於艾爾德斯萊，父親是蘇格蘭貴族詹姆斯·斯特沃特的佃農，叔叔是教區的神父。
華萊士的父親組織了一個祕密抵抗組織，他帶領手下人奮勇征戰，打擊英格蘭侵略者。可是沒過多久，父親就被英國人處死了，華萊士也被叔叔帶走了，告別了這個令人悲傷和恐怖的家鄉。從此，華萊士被叔叔撫養成人，叔叔不但教給他很多知識，還教他學習武術。
時光荏苒，已經長大成人的華萊士學成回到故鄉，在那裏，他重遇到了美麗的鄰家女孩梅倫，兩人一見鍾情，在雨天的高原上，他們倆騎在一匹馬上漫步，祕密結婚。就在這一對甜蜜的戀人沉浸在婚姻的幸福中時，梅倫卻被英軍野蠻搶走並遭殺害。華萊士痛徹心扉，決心向英國殖民者報仇。在他的帶領下，廣大村民揭竿而起，屢戰屢勝。
狡猾的蘇格蘭貴族羅伯做夢都想成爲蘇格蘭領主，在其父布斯的慫恿下，他假意與華萊士聯盟。勇猛的華萊士很快就擊退了前來挑釁的英軍，由於巨大的貢獻，他被封爲爵士，並被任命爲護國公。但不久，他卻失望地發現這些蘇格蘭貴族要的只是個人利益，絲毫不關心人民和國家前途。
英王愛德華爲了緩和局勢，派王妃伊莎貝拉前去和談。但由於愛德華根本不考慮人民的死活，只是單純想收買華萊士，談判失敗了。惱羞成怒的英王企圖匯合愛爾蘭軍和法軍共同包圍華萊士的軍隊，伊莎貝拉發現真相後趕緊送信給華萊士。此時，情況十分危急，貴族們慌作一團。華萊士毅然領兵出戰，卻意外地發現好朋友羅伯竟與英王勾結，重情義的他不禁深受打擊。伊莎貝拉爲華萊士的正氣和勇敢所吸引，向他吐露心聲，兩人墜入愛河。
英王再次設下圈套，提出和談，華萊士明知此去凶多吉少，但爲了人民能夠得到和平，他依然赴約。英王愛德華的陰謀最終得逞，抓住了華萊士。此時，羅伯已深深地看透父親不正派的做法，並感到怒不可遏。華萊士被判死刑，伊莎貝拉百般努力卻毫無作用，在英王臨死前，她告訴英王她懷的是華萊士的骨肉，而這個孩子不久將成爲新的國王。
華萊士自由的精神感染了所有人。不久，羅伯高呼着爲英雄華萊士報仇的口號，英勇地繼承了華萊士的遺志對抗英軍。1314年，蘇格蘭軍隊在艱苦的環境下，以少勝多，爲自己取得了最後的勝利。

《勇敢的心》 觀後感
華萊士，終其一生都是一個鬥士，一個爲了愛情而斗的鬥士，一個爲了自由而斗的鬥士，一個爲了國家和命運而斗的鬥士。他是一個讓人尊敬的英雄。
首先是華萊士他的成長，對他而言，真正的`成長是在失去了父親以後。之前他只不過是一個單純的小孩而已。當他看到那個小屋裏被人吊死的同胞，他只是一種震嚇，一般小孩一樣驚嚇而已。但他父親哥哥死後，他變得勇敢，敢於直面死亡了，面對他父親和哥哥的遺體，他變得如此平靜。再後來，他叔叔把他帶走，說是人要先學會用他的腦袋才能真正的戰鬥，把他帶去接受教育，這個是他的故事的開端，也是他生命意義上的長大了。
其次是他的愛情，這部片他的愛情分成了兩部分。一個就是和小時候的梅倫，一個美麗的蘇格蘭姑娘，一個在他父親的葬禮後送了一枝花安慰他的人。華萊士求學有成後回來向他求婚。因爲當時貴族享有初夜權的原因，他們在森林裏偷偷的結婚了，這裏可以體現出他的一種反抗的精神，一種本能的叛逆。但他們的愛情沒有維繫多久，因爲梅倫的美麗太耀眼了，貴族殺了梅倫，這是蘇格蘭和英格蘭的戰鬥的導火線，因爲這引發了華萊士的爆發，揭竿而起，各地響應。第二段是與皇后的感情。皇后丈夫本來就是個同性戀，包辦的婚姻讓她感覺不到愛情的存在，根本沒有感情可言。缺乏了愛情的滋潤，讓爲愛情而起的華萊士走進了她的心靈，她自然爲華萊士的豪情傾倒了。而華萊士則是在爲了自由而奮身博殺，因爲失去了梅倫，他一直在爲了他的信念作戰，皇后的美麗和善良感動了他，兩顆乾枯的心就這樣融在了一起。
再說說他的戰鬥，華萊士開始戰鬥的時候，是因爲貴族殺了他的妻子梅倫，可以說是一個簡單的復仇行動，但事情一開始就不能再受到控制的，尤其是領導權掌握在一個聰明人的手裏。後來，他們起義得到了各地不斷的支持，這讓人看到了蘇格蘭的自由希望。一個方面是因爲他們蘇格蘭的人受迫壓太久了，再加上華萊士所學的智慧，他們勢如破竹，這就很讓人，特別是愛德華心慌了。想盡辦法招安華萊士，最後還是利用了一個騙局把華萊士抓了。
最後，在砍頭臺。這裏是這部片的一個精華了，思想就是在這裏的。行刑前，兩個小丑在那裏舞盡醜態，讓人發笑，但也是說明了英國人的行爲恰恰就是兩個小丑所爲。華萊士就刑，行人對這位英雄扔雞蛋、爛菜，恰恰說明了國民的麻木和愚昧。後來在刑臺上，華萊士受盡了各樣殘酷的折磨，下面則是一片歡呼聲。華萊士就刑前，看到那個小孩在笑，可能這裏也是一個希望的延續，把希望寄託給了後人。那聲振饋發聾的“freedom”讓人久久不能放下思想，激人不斷前進。可以說，在刑臺這段，是鮮明的對比讓這個自由的精神體現的淋漓盡致的。一邊是鬥士、英雄，一邊是愚昧的國民;一邊是前進中的先鋒，一邊是止步不前的落伍者。差距就在這裏體現了，代溝在這裏產生。
勇敢的心是震撼人心的，因爲這裏有可貴的思想——自由。沒有自由了你們還能幹什麼?也許是真的，我們也該好好思量思量。
